I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

If or when this happens why can't they offer to continue their 17.1% contributions for employees willing to pay say 10%?
I'm sure the uptake wouldn't be massive on such an option but would give anyone with serious intentions of getting out of the business with a decent retirement half a chance....
They would still save millions with all the people who think pensions are less important than an Iphone 7

I’ve already suggested on these forums that they could introduce a new optional higher contribution level. But RM won’t want to do that because it will still cost the company more than they seem willing to pay.mark.cup wrote:If or when this happens why can't they offer to continue their 17.1% contributions for employees willing to pay say 10%?

From a RM point of view, they want to save money which their plans will do in abundance, while still offering a decent percentage contribution compared to other companies.
In DC pension terms, 10% is actually quite a healthy figure but as DC pensions offer different and generally less generous pay outs, it will mean many posties working for longer and having less in retirement than they expected. Unfortunately RM and many other companies, don’t really give a damn about their employees retirement prospects anymore.
I do agree that far too many people are interested in ‘the now’, rather than their own futures. Unfortunately for them by the time they do take notice it’ll probably be too late. But at least they’ll be able to look back and say they’ve had a few fancy phones to make up for it.

Its not their fault Robert - lets be careful not to blame the victim here.RobertT wrote: I do agree that far too many people are interested in ‘the now’, rather than their own futures. Anyhow, I think we can all agree with Paul Mason at least on this one - Don’t complain about the strikers – they’re only doing what we all should in 2017
Lets encourage and educate any who need it - cos we will be balloted next year for industrial action over pensions. And when push comes to shove - after we've talked all day about deficits and bond yields and interest rates and life expectancy - what its really all about is diverting wealth from one group of people to another, from those that produce the wealth, to those who, well, skim it off the top.
Good security means trying to limit the damage a Trusted role can do

I don't see people who don’t take a more proactive role in their own future as being victims. They could do if they wanted, but chose not to. It’s those people we need to get on board!
We are facing a major dispute with the company and the CWU will need to engage the membership like never before if we stand any chance of changing RM’s stance on the matter.

I'd like to hope most if not all will be on board when the s### hits the fan on this.
