Yes, and you'll be getting a decent dividend paid too until you choose to sell at a price you are comfortable with as opposed to taking a leap in two weeks when the sp is most likely to be volatile (as well as losing a grand in taxes). Keep em long term, after all, you paid nothing for them.nickbsmooth wrote:Am I right in thinking that once 5yrs is up the shares will never be liable for tax regardless of the time they're are kept for and value say 10yrs down the road?

The shares are held in a SIP and they will continue to be until you sell or transfer them out.worktotime wrote:as the 3 years up 15th oct will we receive a shares certificate to prove that there are our shares and not held by them ? to sell when ever you want . or are they still held ?
The way I understand it is, you can take them out and transfer them into your own name after 3 years if you want to but you will still lose a certain number of shares equal to the amount of tax and NI payable, so there’s no real point.
They will only become 100% ours after 5 years and you will presumably only get a share certificate if you transfer out then.
