Parcel delivery company DPD has invested £100,000 in developing its first depot in Lincoln.

Expected to create up to 46 jobs, the hub will allow the company to handle a "significant increase" in business-to-consumer (B2C) parcel volumes generated by its one-hour timeslot service, Predict.

The new 27,500 sq ft facility, located on the Sunningdale Trading Estate, is DPD's first-ever depot in Lincoln.

It will take over a number of routes from the Sheffield, Nottingham and Peterborough depots.

Chief executive Dwain McDonald said: "The level of investment in our network this year is unprecedented.

"Lincoln is part of our ongoing programme of expansion, enabling us to increase our capacity, ensuring we are always several steps ahead of the competition and the growing demand for our services."

In April, DPD announced its most ambitious expansion plans to date with the development of 15 new depots in the UK in 2014. Construction of a new £100m parcel hub at Hinckley in the East Midlands is also well underway. The facility, which will be one of the largest of its kind in Europe, is on schedule to be completed in 2015, creating up to 1,000 permanent jobs.
