Package for Greece delivered in Germany

Post by skouliki »

Hello.
I recently purchased an item from a UK store. Tracking the package from Royal Mail website i got this information:
02/10/14 AM DESPATCHED TOGLS ATHENS GREECE
01/10/14 19:04 DESPATCHABLE TOHEATHROW WORLDWIDE DC HOME COUNTIES NORTH MC
01/10/14 18:58 COLLECTED HOME COUNTIES NORTH MC
01/10/14 16:44 DESPATCHABLE TOOFFICE UNKNOWN STEVENAGE PDO
01/10/14 16:15 COLLECTED STEVENAGE PDO
Up to this point everything was ok. When the package entered the GLS facility in Germany everything went wrong. Apparently the package was delivered somewhere in Germany. Using the the tracking number in GLS website i get this:
07/10/2014 11:08 Delivered Germany
06/10/2014 13:24 Inbound to GLS location Germany

The signature in the delivery reports RETURN

I contacted the seller and informed him of the situation. He contacted Royal Mail and he was told that the package was about to be rerouted to Greece. That happened on the 7th of October.
Now 2 days later there is no update whatsoever in the tracking number report. Is that normal or should i start to get really worried? I tried contacting GLS germany by email and by phone. Never got a response in my emails and the telephone lines were pretty busy i guess by dissatisfied customers.
I would appreciate any input
Thanks

Germany is the Hub for all European parcels handled by GLS. Apart from what looks like an incorrect scan I think it looks normal. But only time will tell.

Thanks for the reply.
I really hope it was an error in scan :)

It's being returned to sender, GLS scan items as Delivered then enter the signature as RETURN for all items they return to sender.

What were you being sent? was it something with a battery in? there is an issue currently where the airline GLS use to send items into Greece has stopped accepting items with batteries in and they're having to return all items to sender.

I bought a camera so there is a battery inside the package. Do you think that's the problem? The seller said after his contact with Royal Mail that the package is rerouted to Greece. I was under the impression that deliveries to Greece from GLS were using trucks not airlines

Upon further communication with the seller i can confirm that the package is returning to UK because the airline used by GLS stopped accepting packages that include batteries :arrrghhh She also told me that the package can take up to 1 month to return to senders adrress. Will the tracking number provide information of the progress?

It's all airlines unfortunately fairly new regulations implemented at start of this year

Tracking number should still give you updates as the item is returned, though you may find that it will be opened and the offending item removed and disposed of rather than whole thing being returned

 I really hope they let the package intact. Thats not good for both the seller and the buyer.

I am exactly in the same situation.
Any updates on what happened? Did you have your parcel returned? Was anything removed?
The lady at the post office said there won't be a problem sending a phone with non removable battery. It turns out she was VERY wrong...

Surface mail sounds like your only option or you ask them to remove the battery.

I don't mean that I want to send, I mean the same exact thing happened. I told the lady at the post office that it's a phone with a non-removable battery, she said it's not going to be a problem.
But there's no update on the gls site. It says signature return, but no further updates other than "delivered" I had a friend in Germany to call them, and they said they don't know...
