Discounted by the maximum amount of 20%
We have set the option price for our Save As You Earn (SAYE) scheme. It is 360p.
The option price is based on our share price at the time the SAYE scheme was launched. It has been discounted by the maximum amount of 20%.
Why the option price is important
At the end of the three-year savings term, you can choose to buy Royal Mail plc shares at the option price using your savings.
If, at the end of the savings term the option price is below our share price on the stock market, you can choose to use your SAYE savings to buy Royal Mail plc shares. If you want, you can sell your shares straightaway (unless any relevant dealing restrictions apply to you) and could possibly make a profit. You will not pay any income tax or National Insurance. You may have to pay capital gains tax.
Alternatively, if the option price is above our share price on the stock market at the end of the savings term, you can choose to have your savings repaid in full.
You can also close your SAYE account, stop saving, and get all of your money back at any point during the savings term.
Remember: owning shares is not for everyone. The share price can go down as well as up. You may want to get independent financial advice about owning shares. Royal Mail and the scheme administrator, Equiniti, cannot provide independent financial advice.
