Police: Man Hits Postal Carrier Over No Mail

A Florida man is under arrest after authorities say he hit a postal carrier and threw furniture at his truck because he didn't have any mail for him.

Ocala Police Department Sgt. Angy Scroble said 27-year-old Aaron Bernard Smith faces charges of burglary, battery and criminal mischief.

Scroble said the postman told police Smith struck him with an open fist at least three times on Monday and later threw a broken chair or stool at the truck. A witness told police she saw Smith throwing furniture at the truck.

Court records show that Smith has been taken for mental health evaluations twice in the past. No one answered the telephone Thursday afternoon at the public defender's office, which is representing him.
