new start

Post by Wanderer93 »

hi there came across this site trying to get a background about royal mail, starting on a 29 hour contract working 5 days over 6 and was wondering how the job works really?. i have read a lot about people struggling to finish duties especially at the start or if there's a larger amount of mail. i will be contracted between 9 am and 14:48 so will i get a break between those hours? and what happens if i still have mail left over and and i know i wont complete the duty before my shift is finished. read a lot of members complaining that ot is not paid correctly at many delivery offices. also am i expected to be out on my walk till 14:48 or should i be back in the delivery office by then to sign out ? thanks for the help just wanting to be clued up before i start.

forgot to say this is a perm contract

The answers to all of those questions should be provided, (without you having to ask for them), on day 2 of your employment, (your workplace induction day).

Break - yes 20 minutes

How it works - Depends what type of duty they put you on. You may be making up a pair, or you may be on a singleton duty, you may even be on a hybrid - its best to wait till you start.

Your training should cover what happens if you are going to go over, but whether you don't want to work over or you don't mind the extra money, you must still inform the manager before you leave the office.

As to finishing - again depends on the duty, duties that have vans or trollies finish back at the office, although some Units allow the non driving partner to finish on the street. Other singleton deliveries without trollies (very rare) can also finish on the street, but they must allow travelling time if you need to go back to the office.
