MP's anger over Royal Mail flotation

Stamp price increases cannot be allowed to happen, argues MP Katy Clark.

North Ayrshire MP Katy Clark has voiced her anger at the privatisation of Royal Mail following its flotation on the London stock exchange.

The Government sold shares in the company at a price of 330 pence each however by the end of the first day’s trading this price had increased to 489 pence per share. Royal Mail workers have reacted by voting to take industrial action by a four to one margin. A 24 hour strike is due to take place on November 4th.

Ms. Clark said “The flotation of Royal Mail this week has revealed that the Government has completely mishandled this privatisation. As well as putting the universal service and rural post offices at risk we now know that they have also short-changed taxpayers. By the end of the first day’s trading the taxpayer was over £800 million down on where they could have been.”

“The Chief Executive of Royal Mail has already suggested that a privatised Royal Mail will look to increase stamp prices. This cannot be allowed to happen. I will continue to campaign alongside postal workers and the public to protect services and ultimately bring Royal Mail back into public ownership.”

Why are MP's so excited about the privatisation now?
It's too late.
Where were they 2/3 months ago?

All of this is posturing, it won't happen, I think she is just trying to ensure her re-election.
Sometimes, I wish I wasn't a Rep.
