Surely they knew they were being sold on the cheap.
As a pension fund representing the workforce they would have had the opportunity to invest in as many as other major hedge funds.
Could have been a good opportunity to make up some losses and provide long term influence.

Probably not clever enough to.
Anyway, they were more likely too busy screwing us out of our pensions to have time to do this.
