Symbols of Britain's monarchy could disappear from Royal Mail stamps and post boxes when the firm is privatised, it has been revealed.

The firm has admitted it may lose the right to use royal symbols, including the Queen's E II R royal cypher on post boxes and the crown on stamps after its £3bn privatisation.

It has even been revealed that future monarchs - including Prince Charles - may not appear on stamps, according the Independent.

The Queen's head will remain on stamps until the end of her reign, but other royal symbols could be lost.

The details were revealed in Royal Mail's prospectus for potential which show the firm has an agreement with the Government which covers its use of royal symbols on stamps.

The Lord Chamberlain's office has told Royal Mail that the image of the next monarch is not guaranteed to grace future stamps.

Prince Charles will also be able to decide whether or not his image is used.

Britain is the only country to issue stamps which do not have the name of the country of issue.

The Penny Black - featuring an image of Queen Victoria - was the first adhesive postage stamp issues, in 1840.

After privatization RM has no right to be even called Royal Mail or any connection with the Queen etc.There will be no connection whatsoever as we will no longer be handling the Queens mail as i see it

I will be honest and say that it doesn't bother me as am sure the Royal's would not be to bothered by me working zero hours contract, wondering how to pay the mortgage, see the kids right.
My life being an horrible drudge of worry about bills,pressure on your marriage and very little in the way of luxury to relieved the stress. Xmas cancelled for the future, holidays your having a laugh and having a crown on a stamp will not be at the top of my priorities.
