The law
Being bitten by a dog can be quite a serious matter for the victim. It can leave you feeling anxious and in pain. The law says that the ‘keeper’ of the animal is legally responsible for it. The keeper is the owner or anyone who has the dog at the time, and should keep the animal under control, and should usually use a lead. Under the law, some dogs need a muzzle too.
What do I need to do?
To increase your chances of getting the compensation you deserve, you need to gather evidence as soon as possible. Take pictures of the wound and any scars. If you are able to, get the contact details of anyone who witnessed the accident.
You should try to work out who owns the dog. From there, you can report the bite to the police and your local dog warden.
