On the latest bit of RM bumpf urging us all to vote no (received today 28.9.2013) the following is very clearly stated:
"Privatisation does not affect your terms and conditions. All terms and conditions that apply to you, will remain in place on the same basis after privatisation".

Does anyone else read this the same way that I did? Can I turn round to RM in 2 or 3 years and wave this bit of paper at them when they try and change our contracts? Just a thought!

To me, "the same basis" just means that our T&Cs can be changed either by agreement with the union or by executive action. Privatisation doesn't directly change your T&Cs but nor does it give you any extra protection for those T&Cs

CWU is asking its members if they are prepared to take part in strike action over pay, pensions and the impact of privatisation on job security and terms and conditions.

Strike action is very damaging to our business. VOTE NO.

Any strike action, or the threat of it, is very damaging to our business. That is the case at any time. It is especially the case in the run-up to Christmas - our busiest time. The loss of business has a direct impact on job security.

These are the facts:
•Privatisation does not affect your terms and conditions. All terms and conditions that apply to you, will remain in place on the same basis after privatisation.
•We want to reach a ground-breaking, three-year agreement* – legally binding and enforceable - with the CWU, which delivers industrial stability. Pay and protections would not be changed for the period of this contract without CWU agreement. This is believed to be unprecedented in the UK.
•Royal Mail needs protections too so we can guarantee the protections you want. That is in your interests as well. Even the threat of strike action can lead to a loss of business. That has a direct impact on your job security and our ability to support protections.
•Our customers depend on us, especially in the run-up to Christmas. We lost business to competitors following strike action in 2007 and 2009. We did not win all of it back.

If you are a CWU member, VOTE NO. Don't lose pay. Don't lose business. Don't risk jobs.

T&C's will remain the same.
But for how long is a totally different matter.
Staff costs are RM's biggest expenditure, I believe it takes up around two thirds of turnover.
So when they want to make cuts, I know which area will be targeted first.
