Postmen in Hemel Hempstead are appealing for public backing in their fight against privatisation this weekend.
Workers from Royal Mail’s Home Counties North mail centre on Maylands Avenue will be in the town centre on Saturday.
From 10am to 2pm, they will be talking to locals and getting them to sign postcards in a show of support – something which has already been successful in other areas of the country.
The Save Our Royal Mail campaign comes after the government announced plans to sell the company, as it believes it’s taking vital resources away from health and education.
A spokesman for the workforce on Maylands Avenue said: “The local postal staff are not asking for the government to fund the modernisation of the business. We feel that enabling Royal Mail to freely raise capital for investments in the open market would take the burden from the government.”
The signed postcards will be sent to local MPs as a form of petition support from the public in the area.
