The Tories are ploughing ahead with plans to flog the Royal Mail, but is privatisation the only way?

Network Rail, though hardly covering itself in glory, isn’t Government-owned but ploughs profits back into services.

And it’s able to use Government guarantees to raise money cheaper than it would otherwise.

Yet ministers seem intent on trying to get the public to buy something they already own, and flogging another chunk to investors.

Free shares for workers smacks of a bribe to stop them derailing the process.

But this refusal to listen to alternatives risks harming the firm, and its workers, when it could be avoided.

With unions vowing to strike over the plans, it could be a tough fight ahead. (emphasis mine)
