Nervous Newbie

Post by sylmaruk »

Hi,

I recently applied for a role with Royal Mail which closed a few days ago.
The application status has been showing as 'application under review' since 1 day before the role closed.
I have a couple of questions about this, the first is 'does Royal Mail' respond to unsuccessful applicants ?
Or do they just change the status of the application to 'unsuccessful'. Also, in your own experience how
long can the shortlisting process take ?

It would be great to hear your own experiences of the Royal Mail recruitment process.

Many thanks,
Sylmar.

I'm about 4 weeks further ahead than yourself

30/10 Application confirmation
8/11 Invite to book interview
22/11 Advised that I had passed the assesment, and they were moving onto the next stage.
28/11 Conditional job offer made

I was told it would be around 14 working days for pre-employement checks to be conducted............ so presumably I should be starting about a week before Xmas :arrrghhh
I am no longer a number :-)

It can be a bit of a long and painful process. When I first applied I couldn't make the interview so they closed my application there and then (I had a valid reason was volunteering at the Glastonbury Festival but that made no difference!) so waited six months till another local application came along, applied went to the interview only to be e mailed the next day to be told I was unsuccessful but was on a waiting list and if a vacancy came up within six months, I could fast track an application with no interview.

A vacancy did indeed arise a month later so applied and got a phone call a week later telling me I was successful but had to clear security. As I'd worked for Royal Mail before in 2007, this didn't take too long (a week as opposed to two weeks) then had to wait a few weeks for my induction day as you can only do one when one is available.

Been a postie since January this year and whilst the job has its problems (what job doesn't) on the whole I love it!

Thanks for sharing your experiences, I'm still waiting for a response to my application but don't feel quite so anxious about the wait as I did before.
It's useful hearing that others have also experienced the 'long process' involved.

I'm hopeful that I'll be shortlisted and get opportunity to present myself at interview (at the very least).

Thanks again for taking the time to respond to my query x

I applied in August, had my interview in September and started a few weeks ago. It is a very drawn out process. To be honest keep looking for other jobs. I am already! The bullying and harassment is horrible and started on my first day. Not by my fellow workers, they have been wonderful to be honest but management will lie blatantly to your face within the first 5 mins of you starting.

My one bit of advice is too read everything you can on here. Yes it will terrify you (it did me) but at least I knew my rights and what was expected of me. If I hadn't I would of fallen for the management lies and be taken for a mug! They will try it on with you. I promise!

Any other questions just ask me xxx

Security checks cleared, employment offer made, but they can't get me on to an induction course until Mid Jan  .

Now I can get really pissed over Christmas :dance

Hi.. I applied 20th November, got a text and email on the 5th December inviting me to book interview for 11th December. Had my interview yesterday, they told me at this time of year it could be 2 to 3 weeks before I hear anything. Good luck :thumbup
