Egyptian postal workers took part in a 100-worker symbolic protest April 28th against Egypt Post's decision to force workers back to work on Saturdays.
One hundred postal workers took part in a symbolic strike April 28th to protest Egypt Post's decision to force postal workers back to work on Saturdays for a six-day work week. The independent postal union has announced plans for a nationwide strike starting on May 5, 2012 if postal management does not rescind their decision.
One of the independent postal unions negotiated a two-day weekend following the postal strike in September 2011. This agreement was implemented on January 1, 2012. Furthermore, the Minister of State for Administrative Development issued a decision that all public sector staff should have Friday’s and Saturday’s off work. However, Egypt Post has not applied this decision to postal workers who are also public sector employees.
