Questions about Angard

Post by Roy Mayall »

I was wondering if anyone could help me with this. How long is the Angard contract for? Is it for 12 weeks or longer? And what is the basic pay rate? Is it the minimum wage - £6.08 - or a bit more? Someone suggested £6.44 is this correct? Are all job applications being directed to Angard these days? Are there any jobs available through the normal means, and if not, is this just temporary?

I'm trying to work out what the loophole is. As I understand it, agency staff employed in-house are outside the scope of the Agency Worker regulations that came in on October 1st, which means that RM can go on paying these Angard staff at reduced rates for the foreseeable future, is this right?

I'd be interested to hear what Angard staff have to say on the subject. What are the conditions like? How often do you have to move? How hard are they working you?

Just to explain for people who don't know me, I'm a postal worker and a blogger, and I've been asked to write about this. Posties on RM Chat will verify me.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Roy

The pay rate for me at the moment working nights at the MC from 22.15 to 06.15 is £6.58 (this includes a 50p per hour "night allowance).

Casuals that were employed pre Angard were on RM contracts that were terminated on 11the September (mine still had until October to run) and were paid min wage £5.95 PLUS a night allowance of £1.76 so yes we are losing out about £10 a night. The work is the same as always but undertaken with a feeling of being taken for a ride by the company.

I still do not hold a copy of a contract so I believe the length of contract is 38 weeks.

Contacting Angard is a nightmare and I only have 0845 numbers which is a rip off having to pay to ring your employer! You have to keep ringing them as you do feel forgotten about I went for a month without any work.

My Managers are now arranging work directly with us now and telling Angard when we are in. Things have improved over the last couple of weeks but the pay issue is what rankles the most.

That's the minimum wage then.

The contract I have lasts 38 weeks and started on 12th September, we are paid NMW which meant a pay drop for myself I used to be paid £5.95ph but now I am only paid £4.98 as I am only 20(over 21 paid £6.08ph). All temporary/casuals jobs go through angard only fixed part time/full time jobs are through Royal Mail.

You are right that the set up of this agency gets round certain parts of the new agency law(not sure which bits though)

Just a few further details:
- didn't get paid until a month after I did the work (breach of contract - contract states paid weekly in arrears)
- if you ask them any questions they say they will call you back but they never do
- give you shifts then cancel them as they have 'double booked'
- apparently all year round casuals are only back up to xmas casual staff (xmas casuals been given set hours and start date, we been told we will be called as and when)

Hope this helps
