Further to LTB’s 641/11 and 647/11 please note that there have been a few additions to the list of Guildelines For Absence Clarification that should be used.
Attached for the information of Branches is the amended list that should be used in conjunction with the Parcelforce Central Billing agreement which is effective from today. The changes have been highlighted in red for your ease of reference.

Notes for Completion.
1. All applications for union absence must be submitted to the Line Manager prior to the commencement of the requested absence, to help ensure that adequate resource is available to cover the applicants duty.
2. Applicants must Fully complete Section One.
3. When entering the “Reason for Absence,” use only the descriptions indicated on the reverse of the application form – pages 2-3.
E.g.
“Branch Meeting”, instead of “Meeting”
The official title of the training course, as indicated overleaf, instead of just “Training”
More specific detail for union activities, as indicated overleaf, instead of “Union Business”
4. The Branch Secretary will endorse Section Two (A) with the correct ‘Paid/Partly Paid/Unpaid’ classification and acknowledging signature. NB Partly Paid Leave is paid 60% by CWU and 40% by Parcelforce Worldwide. Absences identified as Partly Paid or Unpaid will be signed and dated in Section Two (B) by the Branch Secretary authorising payment. This must be completed prior to submitting the form to the authorising Line Manager for approval.
5. Subject to resource availability and operational requirements, the Line Manager authorises the application in Section Three, in the presence of the applicant, who accordingly verifies this action.
6. Once the first three sections are fully completed, the application form is immediately forwarded to HR Services in Sheffield for processing.
7. All applications forms not meeting the above standards will be returned back automatically (unprocessed) to the Line Manager for reconciliation.
