ROYAL Mail customers in the North and Midlands are set to bear the brunt of savage cuts to Britain's 14,500 post offices.
Watchdogs say 604 post offices could disappear in the North and 380 in the Midlands under Government plans to close 2,500 branches across the UK.
And there are only three weeks left for people to give their views on the cost-cutting proposals.
Royal Mail bosses say the shake-up - due to come into effect in the next 18 months - is needed to safeguard the network, which is losing £4million a week. Consumer group Postwatch fears the plans will hit pensioners hard.
Chairwoman Millie Banerjee said: "We want as many people as possible to respond to ensure their views are fully taken into account."
