Yodel beats off Nightfreight and City Link to secure Hughes Direct deal

Yodel has scooped a home-delivery contract with Hughes Direct, to distribute approximately 125,000 orders every year.

The parcel carrier will offer Hughes Direct's customers 24-hour, 48-hour and Saturday delivery options, using its one and two-man delivery services. Goods handled will range from DVD players to washing machines. Volumes are also likely to increase after Hughes bought a number of Bennetts (Retail) stores last month after the company entered administration on 10 March. Nightfreight had previously managed the two-man home delivery services for Hughes Direct, while City Link handled one-man deliveries.

Hughes general manager Simon Cox says Yodel offered competitive rates and he was impressed by its service offerings, including varied delivery slots for B2C customers.

Yodel chief executive Jonathan Smith says: "The multiple delivery options we offer mean we can meet the range of products it sends to its customers every day."
