Jersey Post has confirmed that the cost of posting a letter in Jersey is to rise from 3 May.

The price of a standard local stamp will go up by 1pm from the current 36p with the price of a priority stamp rising by 3p to 42p.

The biggest increase will be in the cost of a large letter sent to the UK, with a 7p rise to 79p.

Jersey Post service delivery director Gary Carroll said the firm had worked hard to keep increases to a minimum.

The cost of a standard letter from Jersey to the UK, Isle of Man or other Channel Islands will rise from 45p to 50p.

Mr Carroll said: "By keeping the increase for the standard service for local mail to just 1p, we are able to offer a cheaper service for those customers who do not require a next day service for their items.

"Over 60% of mail generated on the island is exported to UK, European and international addresses and Jersey Post works in close partnership with the Royal Mail for onward delivery of these items.

"The recent increases imposed by Royal Mail means that Jersey Post has little alternative but to increase our own prices in these areas accordingly.".
