The written declaration launched in the European Parliament on postal services showed that this topic concerns MEPs from all political groups across Europe

24th of March 2011 was the deadline of the Written Declaration 94/2010 on “preventing adverse effects of the implementation of Directive 2008/6/EC amending Directive 97/67/EC with regard to the full accomplishment of the internal market of Community postal services”. This written declaration had been initiated by MEPs belonging to the 5 biggest groups in the European Parliament: Georges Bach (EPP), Dennis de Jong (GUE/NGL), Isabelle Durant (Greens), Said El Kahdouri (S&D) and Maria Harkin (ALDE).

The declaration demanded that a clear impact assessment of the negative consequences of postal liberalisation be undertaken by the Commission. It also called on the Commission to refrain from any infringement procedures against Member States who do not immediately implement the Directive to give more time to investigate and prepare for the consequences of liberalisation. Member States should take all necessary measures to create an equal level playing field without social dumping and to guarantee sustainable and reliable postal services also in the future.

The 165 Members from the European Parliament who signed the Written Declaration came from right across Europe and represented all political groups in the Parliament. “Of course our aim was to achieve 50% plus one signatures of all MEPs”, said Cornelia Berger, policy officer from UNI Europa Post & Logistics, “but nevertheless we could prove that a large number of MEPs see the implementation of postal liberalisation in Europe as having been handled in a problematic way. They have expressed the need for a review on some major points. It is up to us to now follow up and address our concerns once more to the European Commission.”

UNI Europa Post & Logistics will continue the fight against the negative consequences of postal liberalisation in Europe in conjunction with Members of the European Parliament. The next steps in our strategic plan are now to be launched with several new ideas and measures to save the jobs of the postal workers in Europe and guarantee for future generations quality postal services.

Thats what i thought also.Makes me wonder what the hell is going on. We have been put through the mill already by New Labour in this country who said open competition would be rolled out across Europe,oh well,thats another lie from them then.

Yes, but the UK under New Labour decided to "I did it my way"

If I recall the whold idea was that we all move forward together to the same timetable so as to prevent unfair advantages opening up. Blair and co did it their way and ignored that. I have to wonder though did UK MEP's especially Labour ones challenge the governmentregulator ignorance of the safeguards in the EU postal services directive.

This is treason on a mass scale, those responsible should be excuted, slowly.
