Brighton residents will rally today in the latest stage of the Keep the Post Public Coalition's campaign to stop the Royal Mail sell-off.
Speakers including CWU general secretary Billy Hayes, local Green MP Caroline Lucas and London Young Labour vice-chairwoman Cat Smith will put the fight to save the historic service at the centre of the fight against the coalition.
Ms Smith told the Morning Star yesterday: "We are fast approaching the big day, March 26, where we will march for jobs, growth and justice, but we must not forget our ongoing campaign to Keep The Post Public.
"The CWU have been leading the way in the struggle to show there is an alternative to the cuts agenda pursued by the government, and we must remain standing in solidarity with them at this crucial time."
Ms Smith emphasised the role young people had to play in opposing the government's cuts agenda.
"This Conservative-led government have brought nothing but bad news for young people, from cutting apprenticeships and the Future Jobs Fund to pricing ordinary young people out of studying by slashing the educational maintenance allowance and trebling university tuition fees," she said.
"It is imperative that young people stand shoulder to shoulder with trade unions and the labour movement to challenge them and fight for a fairer more equal society.
CWU regional youth secretary David Chivers backed Ms Smith's stance.
He said young people were also vital for successfully mobilising opposition against the Con-Dem austerity drive and urged united opposition to the "ideological onslaught" being waged by the coalition against Britain's communities.
