Sweden’s postal network is looking at the possibility of letting people pay for postage stamps via a premium rate text message. The postal service would then respond to the sender with a short code which is written on the envelope to show that the payment has been made.
As each code will be unique, confirmation of payment can be carried out by scanning the code, just as their current sorting machines read the handwritten addresses and confirm the presence of a postage stamp.
According to Anders Åsberg, head of marketing and development at the Swedish postal service Posten, they are interested and are just now looking into a solution. He added that no date has been set to introduce the service in Sweden.
