Thousands raised for Make-A-Wish Foundation

Employees at premium express delivery company City Link have raised more than £2,000 for a children's charity by promoting health and safety at work.

The forward-looking company pledged to donate £1 to Make-A-Wish Foundation UK each time an employee pinpointed a potential hazard at work.

Even if the hazard was something that could be rectified straightaway, such as water spilt on a floor, a contribution was added to the fund.

Employees responded to the incentive, reporting 2,003 dangers to City Link's "Don't Look Away" health and safety campaign in just nine months.

Make-A-Wish grants the magical wishes of children and young people living with life-threatening illnesses and City Link have supported it for over two years during which time the company has donated over £78,000.

Neil Jones, Chief Executive of Make-A-Wish, was presented with a cheque for £2,003 at City Link's headquarters at Camberley, Surrey, on Tuesday, February 11th.

Mr Jones said: "We are delighted to receive this generous donation from City Link which will help us grant more magical wishes to children facing extremely stressful circumstances.

"We aim to make 2011 our most successful year ever by reaching out to even more families - we have set a challenging target of raising £6 million and helping around 900 children."

Duncan Faithfull, Sales and Marketing Director of City Link, said: "It is with great pleasure that City Link makes this latest contribution to Make-A-Wish.

"Employees responded magnificently to our 'Don't Look Away' health and safety campaign and I am sure they will be heartened to know that their efforts have helped raise more money for this well-respected charity.

"The health and safety of employees is taken very seriously at City Link and by recording every potential hazard we can take appropriate action to protect our workforce in the future."
