THE ‘immense efforts’ of postal staff during extreme weather conditions have been praised by Liberal Democrat MP Sir Alan Beith.
In the run up to Christmas, Sir Alan Beith paid a visit to the sorting office in Berwick upon Tweed to meet postal workers.
A well as thanking them for their hard work during the recent and ongoing severe weather, Sir Alan discussed the Postal Services Bill with the workers.
Sir Alan said: “The workers have been making an immense effort over recent weeks to get the mail to its destination and I know how much people have appreciated the individual efforts of postal delivery staff.
“All three political parties have accepted that private capital has to come in to Royal Mail but the postal workers feel very strongly that they are not being allowed to compete on fair terms with other mail distribution companies like TNT, DHL and FedEx, whose mail they have to actually deliver on the last part of its journey to the letterboxes, and I’ll be taking this message back to Westminster.”
