Sending food to USA, customs label etc

Post by oddsock »

My dad is in the States and I want to send him things he misses from UK as part of his Christmas. This includes a packet of biscuits but have been told that when sending food, I need to go online and fill out a Prior Notification thing with details of what is in the parcel, who's sending it, who's receiving it etc.

I hope I've filled out the correct thing, it asked me to describe the type of food it was, where it was made, what the packaging was made of etc. A bit long-winded if you ask me, however...

So now I have this Prior Notification number, where do I need to write that when I'm sending the parcel? I imagine I will have the CN22 customs label on it anyway but is there another label I have to attach and write down my reference number?

I only want to send my dad some biscuits lol

If in doubt I would write it both on the customs label and on the front of the packet where you put the address, this is just a guess though and maybe someone else will give you a better answer.

According to Royal Mail the Prior Notification Number only applies to business customers

That page also show which items are Prohibited, or Restricted
