RE: Royal Mail Dispute
At the invitation of ACAS we met Royal Mail’s senior management team yesterday afternoon.
The meeting explored the possibility of establishing a process for talks to get underway.
The meeting adjourned with both sides agreeing to reconvene at ACAS on Thursday 2nd August.
In the meantime the strike action, already notified, goes ahead.
Further information will be sent out in due course.
Yours sincerely

I hope this meeting is productive but in the meantime I hope the union announce further strike dates continuing on from the 8th August.
Otherwise it could be just a stalling tactic by RM to give breathing space from that date for the backlog to be cleared before talks break down and more dates are only then announced by the union.

So if I read it right they have both agreed to have talks about the talks. So nothing substantive will come out of it, but it looks as though RM are the first to crack so these rolling strikes must have hit them hard.

Couldn't agree more. Keep up the pressure on them, it's oviously working.strangler wrote:I hope this meeting is productive but in the meantime I hope the union announce further strike dates continuing on from the 8th August.

so its talks about talks
we in N.I. know all about these, for 20years we had people who could not agree so they came up with this idea, its a total waist of time , just an excuse to stall for time ,HOPE THE CWU DONT FALL FOR THIS ONE & KEEP THE I/A GOING UNTILL RM RETURN TO THE TABLE WITH A FIRM COMMITMENT TO RESOLVE THIS

Even if the talks fail tomorrow, Dave Wards letter says strike action already notified, goes ahead. The union can still give the seven days notice from the Friday if need be. I shall be on duty tomorrow with my fellow strikers waving our flags that I brought home from the rally held in Bristol yesterday. We shall be waving them at the strike breakers and the dum when they cross the picket in the morning!!!

Lets hope its not a meeting to clarify why we must modernise,we know why and what we need to do.If the meeting is just for Lieghton and Crozier to clarify this,it'll be a waste of time for ACAS being there and i should think they wont be happy,it needs to be reallistic grown up talks from both sides.strangler wrote:I hope this meeting is productive but in the meantime I hope the union announce further strike dates continuing on from the 8th August.

The Union need to give RM 7 days notice of strike action, therefore unless the union announce further strike action for next week immediatley there will be a break in the rolling strikes, which will provide RM the chance to clear the backlog. Effectively undoing the benefits of the last 2 weeks action. So come union announce more rolling strikes for next week NOW.

too right same goes for strangler and ulster postie, ACAS is a ploy to get us talking not striking and if anything does change, just to shift things in RM's direction with them giving some token concessions not the other way around - the government wouldn't have set it up if it didn't work that way. Either way though, announce the strike days now as the way to keep the pressure on RM after all "we can talk while we walk"dogfood wrote:The Union need to give RM 7 days notice of strike action, therefore unless the union announce further strike action for next week immediatley there will be a break in the rolling strikes, which will provide RM the chance to clear the backlog. so far all we have had at meetings is drones turning up to explain the situation and its probably the same thing again so lets not take anything for granted, however i have noticed a large upturn in comments from managers saying that we are striking for nothing and will loose,so if you turn that around as you must with management statements it means that someone somewhere is starting to take note,so heres hoping
