RM split and franchise

Post by Spedley »

Has anyone heard rumour of splitting RM up into distribution and delivery networks?
Then, selling off the distribution and franchising the delivery (probably on an office basis rather than individual round basis).

Or is this another one purely from the rumour mill?

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

I think Australia post has franchised off some of its delivery routes and in Belgium theres community based deliveries
where local residents do small deliveries, one things for sure if Royal Mail is privatised no f****r is gonna go with the
2010 and beyond caper.

No that wont happen.

All that is being proposed is a share sale. Everything remains in tact except POL stays under government ownership.

I went to a meeting back in 2001 where a senior RM bod, suggested just this idea, except that he thought it would be a good idea for Sub Postmasters to buy local delivery franchises. :hmmmm

Might work

You're quite right, it could work and so could many more scenarios - office based prep, home based delivery - more so now that the last letter time is getting later and later; so much so it seems almost pointless to make a specific time for last letter. Anyone who believes the USO will survive privatisation is in cloud cuckoo land.

It'll last long enough for the next election - if it isn't done away with due to "operational requirements"

Surely you mean "in the interest of efficiency"?

No it doesn't. But I think you're being amazingly optimistic, if you think the USO will last 'till the next Election. Unless of course, we can defeat the ConD'em Government.
