The updated Hooper report commissioned for the Tory government wants to carry Royal Mail privatisation further than under Labour.

In that period, Royal Mail was opened up to competition and mail over 50 grams led to private firms such as DHL taking over lucrative parts of the postal service.

The present government wants to complete the privatisation.

The Hooper report says the Royal Mail universal postal service can only be maintained by an injection of private sector money and expertise.

But Royal Mail currently carries out those obligations and is making a profit. If it is as bad as it is painted, private companies will shun Royal Mail unless they can cherry-pick the best bits leaving what remains in a worse position or, alternatively, postal prices will be raised significantly.

Royal Mail has survived for the last 170 years without such help and is currently modernising the postal service due to an agreement between management and the CWU union.

Hooper also calls for the pension deficit, estimated at £5.9bn, to be taken over by the government and added to its debts.

This is at a time when the government is introducing severe cuts to try to get its deficit, due to the bail out of the bankers, down. This would mean even more cuts.

Although Vince Cable has laid out the government plans for Royal Mail privatisation the government is acting as an agent for the European Union.

This is made clear in the original Hooper report which said EU countries must fully privatise postal services by 2012 to comply with EU postal directive 97/67/EC.

Therefore to kill off Royal Mail privatisation once and for all we have to make clear we will not allow the government to act as proxy for the EU.

I have to agree with that 100%. I think that the EU postal directive was intended from the start to weaken national postal services and lay the ground for the privateers.

OK so we are only 22 miles from the European mainland, but didn't we fight a bloody war against a European dictatorship, spilling our British blood in the process to stop our ways and customs being destroyed by a bunch power mad maniacs, hell bent of controling ALL of Europe. They couldn't defeat us militarily, so now they are trying to do it economically and politically through an EU parliament that no bugger in this country of ours voted for. We voted to join the EEC, European Economic Community in 1974, not this Euro-cratic mad house of non elected comissionairs who sit is smoke filled rooms making up daft laws about what constitutes the shape of a real banana etc.
This Quango of foreign dictators, who now have more parasitic leaders amongst them now, trying to see what they can screw out of us day by day are the instigators of everything that is happening to ROYAL MAIL. They don't want any National postal carriers. They want the whole thing to be private, so that they and their ilk can milk the revenue from the job. They want it all to be a commercial BUSINESS and not a SERVICE!
They have the damn cheek and ordasity to INSTRUCT our government to comply with EU legislation on the 'postal directive' which sole aim is the abolishion of all national postal carriers.
Something else you may not know is that these same faceless Eurocrats are planning to do away with our NATIONAL BORDERS AND IDENTITIES in favour of EU REGIONS! We will be lumped in with Belgium Holland, half of France and Germany. To establish this, they need to eradicate ALL forms of NATIONAL SYMBOLS such as NATIONAL POSTAL CARRIERS which have a particular bond with their nation and its people & constitution.
In simple terms, we are in this mess because of the EU and no-one else!
ROYAL MAIL CAN BE SAVED!
ROYAL MAIL CAN BE A SERVICE AGAIN!
We can have our Monopoly back
We can have two deliveries if WE WANT them back!
We can STOP private foreign companies nicking our business, our jobs, our heritage, OUR WAY OF LIFE!, by standing up for ourselves and telling the EU where they can stick their 'postal directive'!!!!!
As the name suggests, its a DIRECTIVE! That to me sounds very much like DICTATE-IVE!
None of the 3 main parties will ever stand up to this monster of the EU! What are they afraid of? And why the hell are WE paying £45 million per DAY to the EU?
For them to TELL US WHAT WE CAN AND CAN NOT DO?!!!
