A number of east London-based City Link employees who stole thousands of pounds worth of cargo the business was handling have avoided jail.

The following City Link drivers, all aged 44, were found guilty of multiple thefts: Trevor Griffith from Limehouse; Clive Myrie of Hackney; Margaret Thomas from Plaistow, and 32-year-old Faye Clark from Basildon.

Goods worth £6,954, including mobile phones and iPods, were stolen between April and May 2008, Snaresbrook Crown Court heard.

Clark and Thomas received four-month suspended sentences and must carry out 80 hours of unpaid work.

Meanwhile, Griffith and Myrie were ordered to carry out 200 hours of community service, and handed eight-month suspended sentences.

The sentencing last week came just ahead of City Link announcing it had invested significantly in cameras for its van fleet to deter thieves from its cargo.
