TNT Post UK is on the hunt for a new distribution centre (DC) as part of its 2010 investment programme, which also includes a 25% increase in the size of its workforce.
The Royal Mail rival says the growth agenda is to ensure that it "maintains its position at the cutting edge of the postal market".
A central DC to handle billions of items annually is being scouted to aid its five regional hubs, while a new Northern Ireland facility will open by the autumn. Also, its Iver, Buckinghamshire depot will double in size to 80,000ft2.
A TNT Post UK spokeswoman tells Roadtransport.com there will also be changes to its distribution operations. "Each region has a van fleet that it manages, but the fleet will now all be based at one site. The centralisation will mean that these regional fleets are centrally managed from one hub, to ensure that TNT Post's infrastructure meets the needs of its growing customer base."
New roles will also be introduced at the company to boost staff numbers to 1,000 from 800.
Facility and employee increases will be complemented by a £3m investment in technology, such as sorting and processing machinery.
Nick Wells, CEO of TNT Post UK, says: "Our incredible growth rate is owed to the way we have continued to innovate the postal market; from hybrid mail services to our new next-day delivery offering, FirstSort.
"It is this commitment to innovation, quality of service, and intelligent account management that keeps UK organisations, both large and small, public and private, coming to TNT Post for a truly unique approach to postal services."
