Mail Segregation Bag (MSB)

Further to LTB 171/09 and 245/09 on Direct Customer Traying, the purpose of this LTB is to inform Branches that further development has been carried out in order to improve and standardise how low to medium volume posting business customers will be collected in the future.

Over the last 12 months Royal Mail and the CWU have worked together at Slough, Greenford and Hereford to identify processes and equipment that is fit for purpose and improve collections safety by incorporating numerous current SSOW into one streamlined document.

A comprehensive safety concurrence involving technical experts and ergonomic evaluation has now been completed, and as a result of this the documentation attached has been produced to support safe and effective deployment, which involves Representatives being fully involved from the outset.

In addition, a robust communications and training plan has been jointly produced which includes generic WTLL, a training guide and a DVD to support this initiative. These should be discussed at the initial meeting between the Collection and Delivery Unit Managers and the local CWU Representatives.

CWU Representatives are therefore requested to engage fully with Royal Mail to make full use of the SSOW and the supporting documentation to ensure that this method of collecting mail is introduced accordingly with any operational problems being dealt with in accordance with the IR Framework.

A stand alone workstation has been designed to support the decanting of MSBs (Mail Segregation Bag Workstation) and a further LTB will be issued in due course relating to the introduction of this equipment.
