City Link moves to larger hub in West London

Increased demand has prompted City Link to open its largest regional hub in the Heathrow area.

The courier has moved from its 60,000 ft2 facility in Heston to a 77,000ft2 depot on the ProLogis Park, West Drayton.

A workforce of 80 has transferred to the hub, and a 65-strong fleet will be covering operations from the M4 corridor to central London.

Doug Grout, general manager at the Heathrow City Link hub, states: "This new facility will be better for us because it is ideal for use as a hub and as a distribution centre. It is better equipped to meet the growing demands of our business, and will allow us to continue to meet the needs of our customers."

Interesting comparison with the newspaper article below.

"Losses at City Link narrowed sharply to £1.3 million in the three months to September 30 - compared with £11.6 million a year earlier - after a major cost-cutting drive.

Rentokil predicts a £7 million loss for the parcels firm this year, lower than the £12 million originally forecast.

It has closed 12 City Link depots and cut more than a third of vehicles from its fleet since December - slashing staff numbers by almost a fifth to 5,500."

And this -

"Bosses at a firm which announced a loss of £43.5million a year after profits of £44.8million paid themselves a total of £6million bonuses.

The awards have sparked outrage among 7,000 workers at parcel delivery business City Link, whose pay has been frozen for two years.

Bosses have also made 1,000 staff redundant in 12 months while shareholders of parent firm Rentokil learned last week they would not be paid a dividend because of the desperate financial results."
