Post workers deliver message to PM

SWANSEA postal workers used a 20-ft inflatable post box to deliver their message to Prime Minister Gordon Brown opposing plans to sell off Royal Mail.

Members of the Communication Workers Union (CWU) gathered on Mumbles Pier to lobby public support for their campaign. Campaigners posted a seven-foot postcard at the Swansea beauty spot.

The pier was the first postal icon to feature on the week-long journey across Wales. The Welsh Assembly Senedd building in Cardiff Bay will host the protest tomorrow.

Gary Watkins, CWU Wales regional secretary, who was at the landmark, said: "Royal Mail is a vital public service for all people in Wales. We have some of the most remote locations in the UK and need a reliable, single-priced postal service.

"The Government must re-think its position on privatising Royal Mail. It would be a political and financial disaster. Privatisation would inevitably lead to higher stamp prices, lower wages and the possibility of further post office closures, job losses and service reductions for unprofitable rural areas."

I think there would be a few people on here that would prefer Billy to have a permanent soap box on Brighton's West Pier :Very Happy
