Angry Wigan postmen launched an eye-catching anti-privatisation protest.
They brought a giant post box to Wigan Town Centre to highlight the Government's controversial plans to sell off part of Royal Mail to a foreign competitor.
The 20ft mobile structure, which inflates with its own portable generator, arrived yesterday.
Metro-wide postal workers were in Wigan town centre to galvanise public support seeking to convince the Prime Minister Gordon Brown to abandon plans to part-privatise Royal Mail.
Wigan Communication Workers Union (CWU) area representative Paul Fenney said: "Such a move would, we believe, risk fracturing one of Britain's greatest public services.
"The CWU in Wigan is in no doubt it would also lead to further job losses and a reduction in postal services in the town.
"We should be looking for ways to improve the service, not wreck it".
Royal Mail, Mr Fenney insisted, was one of the most efficient and cheapest postal services in Europe.
And it has just announced that operating profit has doubled while private mail companies have seen profit reductions.
Mr Fenney said: "We hope that our customers will join us in opposing this crazy decision to sell part of Royal Mail to a foreign postal company.
"I am calling on all members of the public to encourage their MPs to vote against privatisation.
"If they refuse, then they should be kicked out at the next General Election."
