Parking permits for Royal Mail vans in Falkirk town centre bring in more than £30,000 for the town hall coffers.
The number of distinctive red Royal Mail vans, along with white hired vans, particularly at the busy festive period, can be seen in the evenings and weekends at the two Falkirk Council owned car parks next to the Garrison Place sorting office.
This week the council confirmed that the mail company has purchased a number of permits for the car parks in Garrison Place and Meeks Road.
A spokesperson said: “We issue 37 permits to Royal Mail in Meeks Road car park and 22 permits in Garrison Place West car park.
"The permit price is £539 in Meeks Road and £836 in Garrison Place West.
"As more than ten permits are purchased a 20 per cent discount is applied to these costs.”
This equates to a cost of £19,943 for Meeks Road permits but with the discount this is reduced to £15,956.40.
For Garrison Place the cost is £18,392 but reduced to £14,713.60 with discount.
Therefore the permits bring in a total annual revenue to Falkirk Council of £30,670.
Meeks Road car park has 337 spaces and 5 disabled spaces, while Garrison Place West has 95 spaces and 10 disabled spaces.
