Two Falmouth postmen successfully ran the London Marathon together despite the hot weather making it very challenging.
Despite this Sam Nancarrrow and Jonathan Plummer ran their marathons well under their target times on Sunday.
“There were so many Cornish flags and Cornish support over the 26 miles it was incredible,” they said. “There whole atmosphere was amazing.”
Sam ran the course in four hours 40 minutes and has raised over £2500 for Cancer Research UK.
Jonathan completed the course in four hours 15 minutes and also reached his target for Brain Tumour Research.
Sam Nancarrow ran in memory of his father who recently passed away from Brain Cancer after a brave two-year battle against the disease.
Sam had already raised over £2,000 for Cancer Research, well on his way to his target, which will help fund research that will help find a cure for this horrible disease.
Sam’s training had been going well having recently run the Falmouth half marathon in under two hours.
Jonathan who suffered a Brain Tumour when he was younger and was lucky to get a ballot place for this year’s marathon.
This was Jonathan’s second marathon having completed the London Marathon in 2016. Jonathan also took part in the Falmouth half marathon, as part of his training.
Also taking part in the London Marathon was former Packet employee James Toseland.
He completed his second marathon in an official time 3:27:33 although it nearly wasn’t to be.
“Very happy to complete my second marathon under 3.5 hours,” he posted on Facebook. “It was hot out there, and the end was very hard. So much so I thought I was done - collapsed to the ground only for a policeman to tell me I had 200m to go!
“Thank you to everyone who has supported along the way - through donations, good wishes and giving their time and energy to help with this effort. Amazing!! We’ve raised great money for @clearcornwall and #fredsfund and I’m feeling very proud.”
