A Stewartry postie is aiming to complete his rounds of the Lothian coast.

Ed Hex from Crossmichael has already walked from North Berwick to Leith.

And on Friday he will set off from Leith Docks with the aim of covering the 45 miles to Kincardine Bridge by Monday.

In the process, he is hoping to raise money for charity.

He said: “On the way I am going to do some fundraising for the RNLI over in the east.

“They are an obvious choice and it seems like a good idea to have them on side just in case I stuff up my map reading and end up in the sea.

“Here at home I’m hoping to raise some cash for the Crossmichael Gala.

“The village are putting on this free event at the end of August and would be really grateful for any support people can give.

“If me going for a walk encourages them to part with some cash that would be brilliant.”

Over nearly 40 years, Ed has walked the boundaries of 12 Scottish counties – Stewartry, Wigtownshire, Dumfriesshire, Ayrshire, Renfrewshire, Clackmannanshire, Kinross-shire, Buteshire, Peebleshire, Selkirkshire, Roxburghshire and Berwickshire.

Parts of his latest walk have proven difficult due to security at the port at Leith and the refinery at Grangemouth, meaning he may have to walk round them rather than strictly follow the coast.

He added: “Either way when I reach the Kincardine Bridge I will have completed the entire coast line and border of the south of Scotland.

“I have a suspicion I am, and will be, the only person stupid enough to have done this – ever!

“I’ve never bothered measuring the distance but it has taken about 34 days of hard walking although it hasn’t actually been that hard as I’ve spread it out over 39 years so far.”
