Part Time Working Request

Post by PostieBlackpool »

My partner has worked for Royal Mail for 39 years and thoroughly enjoys the job even though it isn't what it was back in the day. However, this year he draws his pension and would like to drop two days enabling him to have weekends off.
He's been told by his manager that there is no option for this in Royal Mail and can not go part time.

Has anyone got any advice or experience with trying to drop a couple of days. It would seem unfair for him to leave when they already have so many staffing issues with people on long term sickness and staff not being replaced.

Thanks for any suggestions. :Very Happy

I've change from working 32 hours a week down to just 13 hours, so that is complete utter non-sense. Your manager clearly just wants him to either keep the status quo or leave.

Personally I wouldn't do any favours for that manager again, if that's what he said. Take your day off.

To be fair you can't just drop down willy nilly, the same from going up on hrs.

You can usually only go up or down if the duty is there.

Chances are during a revision this may be possible.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Id say there’s a chance he could drop down in hours but not choose specifically what days he doesn’t work
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

Anyone can make a flexible working request but RM do not have to honour it but they would have to provide a reason why they cannot. It would make business sense to retain the older experienced posties but RM only seems to care about cutting the wage bill by forcing them out.
