Louise Rayner recently joined the Royal Mail team on their rounds to raise funds for the Paul Strickland Scanner Centre in Northwood.

The centre, located at Mount Vernon Hospital, provides life-changing CT, MRI and PET/CT scans to diagnose and monitor cancer and other serious conditions.

Louise underwent Royal Mail training in preparation for her week with the team, which started on Monday, December 2. During the week, she delivered post while running in the Rickmansworth, Moor Park and Chorleywood areas.

Louise said: “This initiative is in loving memory of my dear friend Julia Bell, who sadly passed away from cancer. Julia always said the scanners at the Paul Strickland Scanner Centre gave her an additional seven precious years with her family, allowing her to meet and spend time with her young grandson, Diego. Her legacy inspires me to give back to the centre that meant so much to her.”

Speaking to NORTHWOOD&RUISLIPnews, Louise reflected on her week with the posties.

She said: “It has definitely been eye-opening. These posties work really hard; I think I underestimated how hard it would be! But I have really enjoyed it.”

Louise said that her fellow posties have been incredibly supportive as many of them have also been directly affected by cancer.

At the time of writing, Louise has raised more than £2,470 for the centre – with that figure set to grow after her workplace, NumberMill Accounting, make their donation.
