Confusing tracking situation

Post by GrantIsCoolAllegedly »

Hi there,

I have a bit of a nuanced situation regarding an International Tracked parcel TO the USA, and any guidance would be appreciated.

I run a small business and I've regularly posted small parcels both domestically and internationally for a decade now, albeit as a personal customer (I realise this needs to be rectified!).

My local Post Office lady is off on a well-deserved holiday, and her only other colleague has been off for quite a while now due to severe illness, so my newsagent staff are handling Post Office duties. I thought I'd make life easier for them by ordering an International Tracked label online, but as luck would have it, a new temp was working the till and wasn't sure how to handle my label. She said I should leave it with her and one of her colleagues would sort it out later.

A day and a half later, the tracking still hasn't updated from "Pending - Your item has been delivered to your nominated collection point on 20-11-2024 and it's now ready for you to collect", which was when the temp initially attempted to scan the parcel. The newsagent manager told me it's "all been taken care of", and I trust them due to positive PO experiences with them in the past, but I'd have expected the tracking info to show the parcel being on its way to the Glasgow MC or Langley HWDC by now, and definitely not "ready for you to collect" when I'm the sender!

I rang RM earlier and they said I should ask the local Post Office for more information, but they don't really seem willing or able to divulge anything else. Is there anything specific I should ask them? Should I just wait a few days? Could they have put a different tracking number on it altogether?

Thanks in advance! Tracking no. is LO364382098GB

I can’t make that tracking number work at all. But from what you posted earlier I suspect that the clerk used the wrong function on Horizon, as that scan indicates something at the end of it’s journey instead of at the beginning.

That said, if subsequently put into the mail system, this should still update as normal.

I recommend speaking to the branch directly, if possible, and ensure that it hasn’t gone into the items awaiting collection.

Thanks for the reply. It does take a couple of attempts before the "Pending" status appears.

That's what I was thinking, and why I'm a bit concerned. I've seen erroneous scans be correctly updated later on.
I'll try speaking to them again tomorrow or on Monday.

I managed to get the parcel back today. Apparently there was an issue with the bar code being invalid - not sure whether this was an error with the code or if they just didn't know the right course of action. In any case I'll take it to a different Post Office on Monday and hopefully an actual PO staff member will be present.
