Has anyone had a look at the official RM website recruitment section for us lately? Talk about trying to deceive people jeez

For a start there's the overtime at 1.25x the standard rate, that reads as though it's the rate if you work more than the hours you're applying for, nowhere does it say it's when you've done over 40 hours, I suspect you only find out when you see your payslip.

Here's three of the bullet points on the jobs ad

Overtime 1.25x the normal hourly rate
- no it isn't see above

Lots of opportunity to develop a career
- Hmm not too sure about that

Excellent parental leave policy
- Good luck asking for an odd day off

That is without all the other s**t(well i call it bullying) by the managers once they are at the D.O.
We expect you to stay out, no cutting off, do this,do that,cut corners, amongst other pressures on them.Got reps doing local agreements with the managers without consulting members,Most of the workforce where i am have accepted defeat.Most,not all.
Done twenty three years and cwu member from my the start. All the pride instilled in me by most of the senior men,colleagues and friends that i have made in that time has disappeared.I am not opposed to change,seen plenty in my time but the powers that be have run royal mail into the ground.

I’m on the new contract, started in July, already thinking of packing it in. The money is awful, I’m going to try and hopefully get some hours in the sorting office to tie me over until Christmas and then have a good think of what I’m going to do. The wage is peanuts for what we do

I’ve been telling them this for ages. They are not in the real world. Just have a chat to other people in other jobs. Cant even go to football anymore. I know people work Saturdays but most are only 1 in 3:or they tell you they have to do a Saturday once a month. We get one Saturday every six weeks. We get home now and it’s dark. You are too worn out to do anything after work. Try and get a day off for anything, at least it’s a good job with good money , or that’s what they have always told me. I think even the ones trying to convince me are now realising.

The change in times makes no sense to me? If we were delivering stuff faster as a result, it would make sense, but we’re delivering anything not tracked slower and RM are routinely delaying mail in MCs. The whole thing is a nonsense.

I remember looking at car salesmen and feeling sorry for them as they only got 1 Saturday off a month. With the pushback of hours and most decent shift rotations gone, we are now in a worse position.

Also the 10% above market average. It’s 10% above minimum wage, soon to be about 3%

Unless they wangle the new USO set up I can see another exodus due to these later Saturday finishes. If they can swing it so it’s just tracked goes out on a Saturday I think that would be popular, the rejigging of duties less so.

Since you started in July they’ve been able to be tightwads about overtime but Black Friday is coming and then Christmas and we’ll pretty much have parcels backed up everywhere, so you will have no trouble picking up extra hours.

Since our times changed I've noticed far more T24 on core delivery. Previously it was the odd one that LATs couldn't deliver the night before and now it's at least half. Makes me wonder if pleasing the major retailer contracts was the real aim.
