We're not an official RM site, just posties with an opinion or thoughts about what might have happened.
As you say the last tracking was where you dropped it off, there should have been an update for a Special Delivery by now.
I'd put in a complaint to Royal Mail straightaway. Any claim for a Special Delivery has to be within 14 days of posting (IIRC).

It looks like you need to revisit the Haigh Moor Post Office and ask them why it's doesn't appear that Royal Mail have ever collected the item from them, have they simply overlooked passing to RM or has somebody stolen it after you handed it to them. Was it an high value item? You also need to ask the PO where you need submit a claim for the loss of the item given that RM don't appear to have never received it.
