why does tracking not show the address on the envelope?

Post by MailJoe »

Hello,
Please would you advise.
Tracking number DF399674675GB

I paid £3.35 at the Post Office and expected that tracking would confirm that my letter had been signed for at the address I put on the envelope. However, tracking shows
Delivered and Signed
North West Midlands MC

Is North West Midlands MC a Royal Mail sorting office/Mail Centre or what? I expected that my letter would be signed for at the Child DLA address in Wolverhampton that I put on the envelope. Where is my letter now; has it been delivered to the correct address or not? Why does the tracking not show the address and postcode that I wrote on the envelope?

Kind regards,
Joe.

If the Child DLA is a firm/organisation that might recieve loads of mail, especially anything that needs signing for, they might get a direct delivery from North West Midlands MC, bypssing the local delivery office. It's also possible that they might collect their mail direct from North West Midlands MC, again bypassing the local DO.

It's the DWP, I don't know how all departments work, but I'd bet it goes to the usual third party and it all gets opened and scanned by them, DLA will work off the digital files and the third party box up the originals for storage.

It's a Wolverhampton address, so will be a bulk delivery to the third party. I'll let a mail centre bod fill in the gaps of how royal mail handle these.

Hi Joe,

DWP will be a WV99 address, correct? Therefore this item has been delivered as required. You're probably confused by the "North West Midlands MC" line - don't be. This line indicates the officethat carried out the delivery, not the recipient address. So if you sent an item to an area covered by Bodmin delivery office it would instead say "Bodmin Delivery Office." DWP mail unit will be a high volume recipient and probably have a vehicle doing a dedicated delivery straight from NWMMC. The tracking doesn't show anything else because you didn't pay for a tracked service, just a Signed For.

Thank you for the information. If I opt for a tracked service next time, is it even more expensive?

At least online it is more expensive to buy the postage label for something second class signed for large letter size than tracked 48. Crazy to me but true as I checked it only the other day.
