Royal Mail “making it easier than ever to send parcels”

Royal Mail has launched a new campaign in the run-up to Christmas, highlighting the variety of ways customers can send parcels through the company’s expanded range of drop off and collection options.

Created by AMV BBDO, the “Send It Your Way” campaign shows how Royal Mail has made it even easier to send parcels thanks to the launch of lockers and Collect+ sites, in addition to at-home collection service, Parcel Collect.

The campaign raises awareness of the more than 5,000 new parcel drop-off points which have been added to Royal Mail’s network this year, as part of the company’s strategy to make sending parcels as convenient as possible for people with busy lives. In a series of vignettes, a 30-second film, directed by Finn McGough through Red Studios, builds an emotional connection with the audience as it shows parcels guided through various hands using both real staff and actors posting and collecting parcels.

The film highlights three ways to send parcels using Royal Mail – dropping them off at a parcel locker, handing in packages at Collect + retailers – and through doorstep collection service, Parcel Collect.

It also shows how savings can be made by buying postage online.

The film opens with a close-up of a grandma wrapping up a toy rabbit in a box and then cuts to her buying postage online and dropping the parcel off at a parcel locker. In the next scene, a child hands a parcel to a Collect + shopkeeper. To highlight the Parcel Collect service, the film then shows a small business owner handing a stack of parcels to a postie on the doorstep.

The film ends with shots of customers’ hands relaxing, showing the time that can be saved with Royal Mail handling parcel deliveries.

Heidi Kieran, Head of Consumer Marketing says: “This beautifully shot campaign raises awareness and highlights the ease and convenience of sending parcels through Royal Mail. Whether you prefer to have your postie collect your parcel from your doorstep or would like to drop it off whilst you’re out and about, Royal Mail offers unrivalled options to suit every lifestyle.

“We are rapidly expanding our number of parcel points to give customers the widest possible choice, with more than 5,000 Collect+ sites and lockers already added this year and even more to follow over the coming months.”

AMV BBDO Creative Partner Tim Riley says, “People trust Royal Mail and its posties to deliver their parcels. This campaign aims to build on that trust by showing how Royal Mail are making it easier than ever to send parcels – and save money.”

The integrated campaign comprises 30, 15 and 6-second ads, which will run on TV, VOD, online, cinema and OOH. It breaks on VOD, radio and online on October 7 and on TV and in cinemas from November 4th.

In this day and age people really don’t want to be queuing up in an understaffed PO or callers’ office.

I've had one of these parcel boxes on my collection for 2 months now. Collected 2 items, both tracked 48 returns. Going well.

They do actually. We have customers turning up all day to collect parcels that they can’t collect because the CO is closed. It is a service that is missed but no one bothered to ask customers what they thought about losing the collection point.

They turn up as a last resort, not by choice. It is a “service” very few people, if any, would willingly choose. Aside from perhaps a small 2% of customers, the vast majority of visitors to the CSP would have much preferred if the postie had delivered their item to a neighbour or safeplace.

Wrong. The last place I would want a parcel delivering to is a neighbour and some items can’t be safe placed because they are a special etc.

The Callers offices ought never to have been considered for closure, expansion of their offering should have been the consideration.

There have been job losses among long standing members of staff due to the crass decision to restrict then close COs and customers have been hacked off and still are every day because they don’t know that we no longer operate a full CO for them.

Then you are in that 2% niche. As I have said, the vast majority want their item with no faff.

If the sender has paid for special delivery, of the item is breakable etc, what you call ‘faff’ is the preferred option because that is the best option. Removing the CO service has simply meant that thousands of parcels are simply stuck in the system of repeat delivery attempts.

What *facts* do you have that says that 2% of customers prefer to use Post Offices and collection points? You don't have any - it's just your own opinion. We should be offering all options for customers to collect and send parcels and that includes collection boxes, post offices and also longer hours for them to go and collect parcels at callers offices. Many customers don't actually want their items delivered to their neighbour and this is why RM introduced a 'delivery to neighbour' option on the PDA so that they are covered when you enter their names. Most posties don't bother doing this and managers still get a lot of complaints regarding denial of receipt. I never bother trying any neighbour unless it's either on the PDA or notified elsewhere. You don't get any brownie points for trying a dozen extra neighbours down the street - so why bother?

I do try neighbours and 'safe' places as since this current system reared it's ugly head it pisses me off immensely knowing that I have to bring it again the following day, I'll add that although most say yes ok but going by the general light hearted comments such as oh another one etc I think the majority actually would rather not bother.

Oh yeah you actually do get brownie points, on the PDA in the section where you can see your driving scores it shows your 'performance' with a streak of how many tracked you've successfully delivered.

What am I going to do with all those 'virtual' stamps though? Can't use them anywhere. Maybe if they allowed me to clock out 4 hours early I might start trying that. Though I have to wonder how on earth I would manage to complete everything and still do that!
