A Royal Mail depot was evacuated following a nearby fire at a recycling centre. Ten fire crews were dispatched to Lincoln Street in Wolverhampton just after 12am this morning (Tuesday, October 2).
The road has remained closed as emergency crews continue to work in the area. Thankfully, no one is believed to have been injured in the fire and the blaze has been contained.
Four fire engines remain at the scene as firefighters work to fully extinguish the blaze. A spokesperson for West Midlands Fire Service said: "Shortly before 12.10am on Wednesday (2 October), we responded to Lincoln Street in the Heath Town area of Wolverhampton.
"Six fire engines, two 4×4 brigade response vehicles, a hydraulic aerial platform, and two technical rescue crews initially responded, crewed by around 45 firefighters. The first crews were at the scene within five minutes of being mobilised.
"Firefighters arrived to find a fire had broken out in a single-storey recycling centre, measuring approximately 100m x 20m. The fire affected two recycling bays. Following sprinkler actuation, firefighters wearing breathing apparatus worked to apply water to affected areas, and were assisted by technical rescue crews, who created an access point."
hey continued: "The fire was contained. There have been no casualties or injuries. At the height of the incident, ten fire engines, two 4×4 brigade response vehicles, two hydraulic aerial platforms and a high volume water pumping unit were at the scene.
"Around 80 firefighters were supported by technical rescue colleagues and drone operations. A neighbouring Royal Mail depot was safely evacuated and remains unaffected by fire.
"Police colleagues continue to assist with traffic management. Lincoln Street and Tremont Street remain closed. We have scaled down our resources and at present, four fire engines are at the scene. Crews continue to work to extinguish the blaze fully."
