Stuck at Greenford MC since 12/09

Post by subzero88 »

Hi All,

Before I get started, I understand how stupid I am for sending a Macbook with T48, I've never had problems with RM over the years so I guess I had the false illusion that the chances of this going missing were pretty much non-existant.

However, I have had a Macbook pro (worth in excess of £2k) sent to myself from a PO box in Portsmouth. (PO box used as I'm not usually in to accept parcels, allows me to send to myself on a day im in/weekend). I sent via tracked 48, the company who deal with my post took the money from my account and sent via royal mail.

No update sine 12/09, entered Greenford MC and hasn't updated since. I have had parcels go in and out of Greenford MC since, and delivered on time.

Is this completely hopeless now? We contacted royal mail, they have said to proceed with claims form (not bothered about getting paid a claim to be honest, as its a fraction of the item value), I just want royal mail to attempt to locate, or is this asking too much?

Valuable items like this should go via Special Delivery. Apart from anything else, you could have paid the extra to covered it for the full value against loss or damage.

A MacBook contains a lithium battery, and there are a lot of rules around that under the Dangerous Goods Act. For instance, the parcel must carry the name and address of the sender on the outside, it must be in a “rigid” container, it needs the hazard warning sticker on the outside of the parcel, etc. I am a bit unclear about who the sender is in this case, but did they follow all the rules as above? Failure to do so could mean that the parcel has been impounded.

If you followed all the rules etc then you initiate a search, such as it is, by submitting the lost parcel form.
