Scotland has followed England and Wales by formally clearing all sub-postmasters who were wrongly convicted as part of the Horizon scandal.
Emergency legislation passed by the Scottish Parliament has been given Royal Assent and came into force today (14 September), exonerating the postmasters.
Anybody convicted of embezzlement, fraud or theft linked to Post Office business from 1996 to 2018 has had convictions quashed. They are also eligible for compensation.
The law exonerating postmasters in England and Wales came into force in March.
The Post Office Horizon scandal resulted in 900 sub-postmasters across the UK being prosecuted for dishonesty or forced to balance their books from savings or loans.
It has now been established that a fault in the Horizon computer system was to blame.
