Halifax stopping paper statements

Post by yellowbelly »

Thought I'd seen this in the News section (but can't see it now), but a relly had a confirmation letter through this morning that
Halifax bank are suspending postal statements for those who do online banking as they're having 'issues' producing them.

Don't have an issue producing the letter saying they're going to stop them though. Guess that'll be a permanent suspension then.

Not Just Halifax. I’ve had identical letters from Halifax, Lloyds and MBNA over the last 2 weeks saying they are all stopping paper statements due to some unspecified issue.

MBNA and Halifax are both part of the Lloyds Group, so effectively just the one company with the "problem".
Royal Mail
failing the workforce, failing the public and deliberately failing mail on a daily basis for too many years.

Two weeks ago I received this from Bank of Scotland, who I see are also part of Lloyds Banking Group:
We’re getting in touch to let you know from 1 November 2023 we’re changing the way we send statements for some credit cards, current and savings accounts. We’re experiencing some issues and may not be able to send as many by post as we normally do. As you use Internet Banking, we’ll only send your statements to you digitally. This means you’ll only be able to see them in Internet Banking or our Mobile Banking app and we’ll send you an email to let you know when they’re ready. We’re sending you a letter which will include a list of your affected accounts so please look out for this.

We appreciate you normally receive your statements by post, and I’m sorry if this change causes you any issues. We’ll let you know as soon as we’re able to offer you paper statements again.
Did they get hacked like everyone else these days? Has the mainframe that's been running a database written in FORTRAN since 1966 finally died and there's no-one left who knows how to fix it? Is the shitshow on delivery a convenient excuse to force the remaining people who want paper statements into the wonderful 21st century online dystopia?
The machine stops.
